Spring Break Time - Woo Hoo!!

So, you are a student or twenty something heading out for a week full of fun, sun, partying, hot bodies, and hopefully memories to keep forever.
Before you head out, we just want to remind you to have a good time, but be aware of the dangers that lurk on every spring break trip. Below is a list of tips that kept us safe and will one day keep our kids safe too.

My spring breaks were just a few years ago and oh what a time we had. Three years in a row I headed to popular destinations in Florida and spent a week having the best time! Inhibitions were gone and things happen on spring break that you don’t normally see. Partying all day and night was a great way to take a week off from the studies, but we were sure to follow some guidelines so we came home in one piece and out of trouble.

So, here are our tips on having an excellent spring break as well as a safe one

Pack intelligently and don’t forget all your necessities. Make a list. Trust me forgetting things like your ID can ruin the whole trip.

Be careful: There are predators who love to focus on college students. The one time to listen to your parents advice about protecting your money and self is now. College breaks are all about having good time, but don’t let it become a nightmare by not being smart and watching out for each other.

Some tips for being safe include, knowing your way around the area, knowing how to get ahold of the authorities, keeping track of each other, not hooking up with random people, keeping important items in safe places, and letting others know where you are. Don’t go off alone!
Stay away from illegal or suspicious activities. For instance, some guys rolled up in a van to me and a friend and offered to sell us a drug. We said no, knowing that it could have cost us dearly.

Drink responsibly! Be careful of drinking out in the sun (dehydration), watch your drinks at the bars so someone doesn’t slip something in them, don’t let your friends drink so much that they can’t control themselves, watch out for alcohol poisoning, don’t drink and drive, and look our for each other. Stay hydrated and eat before you go drinking! Not to be a downer, but it will help you have a better time.

Are the deals all gone?? No! You are in luck. There are many websites on the web including Hotwire, Priceline, and others that specialize in last minute deals. If you are leaving in the next few weeks, then you have plenty of time. If you are like we were, you are just going without any bookings. Might not be a good idea.

Protect your belongings. Whether you have saved all year or the parentals are flipping the bill, you will want to keep all your belongings protected. People in and out of rooms and people having too good of a time leaves you wide open for trouble if you aren’t careful.

Tell the parents you’ll be ok. As long as you and your friends stick together, stay in the popular areas, look out for one another, and have a way to contact someone, you should be ok. Don’t let anyone go off with random people alone. They just worry about you, so don’t give them reasons to do so.

Finally, use common sense. This is a no brainer, but a challenge to do after being wiped out by school and all you are thinking about is having fun for the week.

There is a number of things to look out for, but these are the important ones and will put you on the right track.
Have a good time and come back with stories!

Swimming With Dolphins An Aquatic Adventure

Swimming with dolphins — the most dynamic, beautiful, and highly intelligent mammals of the sea — is rapidly becoming a very popular activity around the world. Those who have had close and intimate encounters with dolphins say they experienced joy and peace of mind.

Researchers say dolphin swims boost the human immune system and help psychological well-being. Swimming with dolphins induces states of expanded consciousness such as those found during meditation or transcendental states of being. This brings feelings of deep peace, relaxation, and heightened sense of well-being.

There are two options for swimming with the dolphins - a captive dolphin swim experience and a wild dolphin interaction.

Captive facilities range from centers offering dolphin-assisted therapy programs and public dolphin swims, to resorts and theme parks. Most captive dolphins are bottlenose dolphins, which when in the wild, are typically very shy and wary of humans. Captive dolphins are trained to perform stunts, and to interact with humans.

Swimming with wild dolphins means you meet them on their turf. Your experience will totally depend on their choice of how, when, and how long they will have an intimate experience with you. Wild dolphins actually do come to swim with people.

There is a very clear wild dolphin swim protocol for participants, which does not allow touching, feeding, or any kind of aggressive swimming or boating around them.

You don’t have to be an excellent swimmer to be able to have close encounter with the dolphins. There are programs available for all levels of ability and for all ages. For those not confident enough to venture into deep water, there are programs that allow you to swim with the dolphins in shallow waters.

Dolphin Swim Info provides detailed information about swimming with dolphins, including profiles of the best places to swim with dolphins: Florida, Hawaii, Cancun, California, Malta, Key Largo, and the Bahamas. Dolphin Swim Info is affiliated with Original Content.

Flamingo Gardens at Davie Florida

Davie Florida is a quaint, western themed town with epic drainage issues. It was founded on land that was largely underwater, and they have been struggling to reverse that situation ever since. The upside to this unfortunate circumstance is that Davie features easy access to Florida’s Everglades, some of the most spectacular wetlands in America. The town of Davie has some very nice amenities and destinations (Davie is where you can find the training facilities of the Miami Dolphins!), but I have to say that the most compelling reason to visit Davie is the Flamingo Gardens - an amazing wildlife preserve where one can find ibises, storks, herons, flamingos (naturally), and other birds frolicking amongst the rich and diverse plant life, all while trying to avoid being devoured by alligators. What more could you ask for?

Strictly speaking, Flamingo Gardens is a wildlife sanctuary, aviary, and botanical garden. It started as the private collection of one Floyd L. Wray in 1933 as a small collection of subtropical trees and shrubs, and, over time, grew to the magnificent state that it is in today. Upon entering, you can take an interesting guided tram-ride through part of the park (though it should be noted that they seem to focus more on the flora than the fauna). You can also witness the wildlife encounter show, where the guides work with hawks, snakes, and other animals. The show is long enough to spotlight some really interesting things, but short enough that you don’t lose interest - I would highly recommend it. There are also habitats for river otters and bobcats, and of course the gigantic, free-flight aviary that has one of the largest displays of wading birds in North America.

Davie’s soggy surroundings might make for interesting issues for a town, but they are certainly ideal for a wildlife preserve in Florida. Flamingo Gardens is well worth the trip, and would also be a perfect location for birthday celebrations (perhaps for that special botanist or ornithologist?) Millenium Limo would be happy to supply a limousine to take you to the Gardens - just imagine the birds’ looks of shock when a hummer limo pulls up. Have fun, and DON’T FEED THE ANIMALS.
